Jesuit and Papal Documents

Three important documents can be found in this section of our web page.  The first come from The Jesuit Curia and details the ways in which the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Arturo, Sosa, S.J., is asking Jesuits and Jesuit institutions to engage the world for the next decade.  The Four Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus calls each institution to discern ways in which it will consciously engage the world through the lens of these preferences.

Laudato Si (Praise be to you), a papal encyclical, is one of the most important documents put out by the Church since the Second Vatican Council of the early 1960’s.  In this document “Pope Francis draws Christians into a dialogue with every person on the planet about our common home.  We as human beings are united by the concern for our planet and every living thing that dwells on it, especially the poor and most vulnerable.  Pope Francis’ letter joins the body of the Church’s social and moral teaching and draws on the best scientific research, providing the foundation for ‘the ethical and spiritual itinerary that follows.’”

Gaudete et Exsultate (Rejoice and Be Glad) is an apostolic exhortation on “the call to holiness in the contemporary world.  With this document Pope Francis challenges us all to be joyful givers and receivers of love in the world as a way of being holy in one’s everyday life.
