PC Security
The University makes every effort to keep students protected from viruses and attacks by hackers. Your computer must be equipped with an anti-virus software program, have all critical updates installed and you should be using an anti-spyware and adware removal tool. All students are advised to back-up their data regularly, in case of problems which can result in loss of all your files.
What If I Get a Virus?
Your computer will have to be quarantined from the campus network and a message instructing you to contact the Technology Support Center (TSC) will appear. We will attempt to remove the malware, which may erase all your files. Be prepared to restore your system, if this happens, using your back-up files and original discs (we are unable to perform data back-up or restoration services on student computers).
For personal devices, the University recommends the follwing free anti-virus applications:
- Microsoft Defender, Which already comes standard with Windows
- MAc OS X: Bitdefender Virus Scanner, AVG, Avast
